Creating Yutori
I came across this word recently: Yutori. The translation I saw described it as intentionally slowing down to simply be, breathe, and appreciate the beauty of life. To consciously create space to relax and reflect rather than rushing from one task to the next.
Now, whether or not this is the textbook definition, the meaning resonates with me. In Japanese, Yutori actually means “space, margin, room to breathe.” For me, that’s something I have to be intentional about. It doesn’t just happen on its own. If I don’t create it, life fills every gap with busyness.
Yutori is a reminder to pause. To notice. To allow for breathing room in the middle of everything pulling at me. It’s something I don’t just want for myself. I hope to create spaces where others can experience it too. Places where slowing down isn’t a luxury but a practice.
I’m holding onto this word as both a challenge and an invitation: to carve out more room for reflection, connection, and presence. Because when we make Yutori, we make space for what truly matters.
Before you move on to the next thing, take a deep breath. That’s Yutori and it’s yours to create.
In clarity & connection,
Naana 💜
