The Day I Put My Work in an Antique Shop Display Case

A reflection on showing up, even when the space doesn't seem made for you…

In 2014, NaRose Designs was already moving, small but mighty. I had a website, loyal customers, and a steady rhythm of creating and selling my beaded crochet jewelry. Social media? Barely a whisper in my strategy back then. Most of my business came from referrals and direct sales, and I was proud of what I’d built with intention, late nights, and love.

My designs have always been a bit bold, full of color, texture, and joy. The kind of pieces that make you feel something . So when I had the chance to place my jewelry in a display case at a local antique shop, I almost said no.

An antique shop? Full of vintage silver, lace-trimmed gloves, and upholstered chairs? My work didn’t quite blend in. It sparkled, looped, and demanded a second glance. But I said yes anyway.

That little glass case was more than just a space, it was a vote of confidence. In my work. In my vision. In the idea that someone would walk past all the antique china, pause, and fall in love with something bold and handmade.

I loaded in my collection of beaded wire necklaces, bracelets, and earrings and set them up with pride. I printed my tags and straightened every necklace with care. It wasn’t about being the perfect fit. It was about being there.

That moment taught me something I carry to this day: You don’t have to wait for the ideal space to take up space. Sometimes the space becomes more beautiful because you showed up in it.

NaRose has come a long way since then with new materials, new styles, new stories. But this display case still reminds me of how growth often begins in places that feel unconventional and even unlikely.

So if you're out there, making and wondering whether your work "fits" let me just say this:
You don’t have to shrink to belong.
You were made to shine in full color.
